Perimeter Mall is getting a new spot for pizza

When one pizza oven door closes, another opens — at Perimeter Mall, at least.

Popular downtown Atlanta spot Max’s Coal Oven Pizzeria is taking over the space left vacant after the June 2016 closure of Varasano’s Pizzeria, which shuttered after less than a year.

Set to open this spring, Max’s Dunwoody will serve New York-style pizza baked in a coal-burning pizza oven, similar to its Atlanta location, with some menu add-ons for the Dunwoody location. Specialty pizzas include the “Caprino” with sausage, goat cheese, mozzarella, red onion and basil; “Tradizionale” with pepperoni, sausage, roasted red peppers and red onion; and the “Fontina & Funghi” with fontina, wild mushrooms, caramelized onions and fresh oregano.
